While the conditions that apply to the majority of the second round selections traded this year are relatively Directly, there is one swamp that includes Mavs’, Heat’s, Wizards, Thunder’s, and Rockets picks.

Thunder, Celtics, Pacers, Nuggets, and Hornets will all get one of those choices, but the protection and swap rights are pretty complicated. Here’s our best attempt to crack it all:

The thunder you will receive The most convenient Among the 2023 second-round picks:

  1. their choice
  2. The choice of witches.
  3. Mavericks selection.
  4. Hit selection.

The nuggets you will get The second most favorable of the next second-round picks for 2023, while Hornets you will get least favorable:

  1. Thunder selection.
  2. The choice of witches.
  3. Most preferred among the Heat and Mavericks selections.

The Celtics you will get The most convenient of the next second-round picks for 2023, while Pacers you will get least favorable:

  1. Choice of The Rockets (Top 32 Reserve).
  2. Least favorite of the Heat and Mavericks picks.

Note: If the Rockets’ pick is #31 or #32, the Pacers will get it and the Celtics will get at least a favorite from the Heat and Mavericks picks.

Got all this?

Just to be sure, let’s apply all of these terms to a hypothetical draft order roughly based on current predictions for the 2022/23 season. Let’s say the Rockets’ pick is 33, the Thunder is No. 34, the Wizards is No. 40, the Mavericks’ pick is No. 50, and the Heat is No. 52.

In this scenario, based on the scenarios described above, the Celtics will get their pick of Houston, the Thunder will keep their pick, the Nuggets will get their pick Washington, the Hornets will get their pick Dallas, and the Pacers will get their pick Miami.

However, if we hypothetically climb up to No. 32, it will be Indiana that will get that pick, while the Celtics will get 20 points later — in other words, the Pacers will root out hard for Houston to be. The team that is second in the standings this season, while Boston wants to see the Rockets avoid that fate.
